William St. Suite 300 Ann Arbor, MI 48103 (313) 996-3573 They sell a variety of TeX and file conversion utilities. The DVI -> PS product is $500 for workstations and $750 for mainframes. Discounts available for extra nodes. They also support HP laserjet, laserjet II, QMS, Imagen, and Autologic and Compugraphic typesetters. Public domain: From CPWSCB.PSC.EDU (Anonymous, PW=Anonymous) VMS (and UNIX) routines to comvert CGM and TeX DVI files to PS and TEK. I haven't installed this. It may not handle all fonts (GF, PK, PKI, PXL). Phil Andrews (andrews@cpwscb.psc.edu) provides this package. Look in TEX$ROOT:[GPLOT] for the files. From Nelson Beebe at CTRSCI.Utah.edu (anonymous login). A DVI -> PS package. See the file 00README.TXT Uses GF, PK or PXL files. Supports a variety of devices including PS printers, Imagen, HP laserjet plus, some Okidata, and Printronix. Available for DEC-20, IBM-PC, VAX and Unix. C compiler is usually needed unless you get the executables. Dr. Beebe sent me a message stating that the DVI driver family is available on tape (Backup format) or IBM 5.25 in floppies (360 KB). Cost is $100. There are ways of getting the files from BITNET, Europen DECNET and ACSnet. Dr. Beebe may be contacted at BEEBE@SCIENCE.UTAH.EDU. University of Sidney Alec Dunn School of EE NSW 2006, Australia G'day Uses GF and word or byte packed PXL fonts. Cost $500. --------------------------------- From: Peter King Date: Thu, 5 May 88 10:00:11 BST Message-Id: <7555.8805050900@brahma.cs.hw.ac.uk> To: tex-info@uk.ac.aston.mail Subject: Bug in Beebe Apple LaserWriter Driver I found a lurking bug in the Beebe driver for the Apple Laserwriter. It does not show up in any of my conventional text output, but appeared when I processed a dvi file that had been processed by the 'textyl' postprocessor. This had the effect of leaving off a terminating parenthesis in a Postscript string, causing havoc in the Laserwriter!! I have informed Nelson Beebe. I know where I can order MacTeX, but Addison-Wesley have stopped distributing TeXtures in the UK. Does anyone know who is Kellerman and Smith's new outlet? And has anyone made a comparison of TeXtures and MacTeX, particularly with respect to speed, using CM fonts and previewer quality? (I'll summarise any replies and distribute via info-TeX.) **Adrian. --------------------------------- Date: 6-MAY-1988 20:36:18 GMT From: BIOPHYS@UK.AC.IC.PH.V1 To: INFO-TEX@UK.AC.ASTON Subject: Duplicate font files at Aston There appear to be pairs of identical sets of font files at ASTON. The 729 PK files in [PUBLIC.FONTS.LN_FONTS] appear to be identical to those in [PUBLIC.TEXVMS.TEX.LN_FONTS] The 638 GF files in [PUBLIC.FONTS.QMS_FONTS] appear to be identical to those in [PUBLIC.GFFILES.QMS_FONTS] I've FTP'ed files with the same name and found them to be identical using VMS DIFFERENCES. This is Tim Morgan's package to translate TeX into C automatically for much easier compilation on Unix machines. I got a TeX-in-C from Joe Stoy and it is well worth converting. +++Editor - I have tried several times but network failures intervene so it is not yet available+++ I am writing a paper for TeXeter about picture drawing stuff for LaTeX and I have collected together all the software I can find. When I am done I will make a comprehensive directory of what I have and pass it on to you. In the meanwhile, if anyone has had problems with getting any or all of - dvi2ps with PostScript support (for unix) - tpic support on dvi2ps - fig (including fig2ps, fig2pic etc) - PicTeX - TeXtyl - Kwok's extensions to LaTeX picture (using tpic) - tpic itself - epic I can mail stuff to people; if you hear of picture drawing systems that aren't listed here, I'd be grateful for information. sebastian --------------------------------- Via: UK.AC.RL.EARN; Tue, 10 May 88 08:45:24 BST Received: from UKACRL by UK.AC.RL.IB (Mailer X1.25) with BSMTP id 7371; Tue, 10 May 88 08:45:24 BS Received: from HGRRUG5.BITNET (TAJ) by UKACRL.BITNET (Mailer X1.25) with BSMTP id 7369; Tue, 10 May 88 08:45:23 Date: Tue, 10 May 88 09:43 N From: Subject: To: abbottp@UK.AC.ASTON X-Original-To: abbottp@aston.ac.uk, TAJ I have an other question: I'm looking for a macro to read a file in TeX paragraph by paragraph. There is one problem, however: the BIBTEX.VMS_CHANGES is for the old version of BibTeX (.98i). In fact the only change file which is up-to-date is the TOP20 changes file. We have mucked around the old change file and it seems to work but we are worried that we might be `missing out' on something. If you can tell me where the new VMS Change file resides I can FTP it down and then life can continue merrily.
