This file gives information for users who want to upgrade from an older version to XFree86-3.3.6 -------------------------------------------------------------- Please read the whole text completely, before taking any action. 1. All beta versions 3.1.2*, and 3.2A are expired now. Remove them and completely install the recent version 3.3.6. 2. If you want to upgrade from 3.2 to the version 3.3.6: It is not recommended to copy new files over old ones. 3.3.6 contains the new X11R6.3 code base which is in some aspects INCOMPATIBLE to 3.2. In case of an update, you MUST remove the old code and install ALL new packages (including fonts!). 3. You may copy 3.3.6 over a 3.2A, 3.3, 3.3.1, or 3.3.2 tree, because these releases already contain the aforementioned incompatible changes. Still be careful though that an unpacking of the archives may overwrite user files like xinitrc.cmd. 4. XFree86-3.3.6 uses, consistently with the Unix platforms, the name XF86Config for the config file. If you had 3.3.1 before, you can simply rename the old XConfig file to XF86Config file. 5. If you want to upgrade from XFree86-3.3.3/3.3.5 or 3.3.3.1: XFree86-3.3.6 is a bugfix release. You only need to replace the Xserver with a new one. 6. If you are using WSeB (Aurora), install the latest XF86SUP.SYS driver Version 1.511 (displayed at boot time) from the XFree86/OS2-3.3.6 archive Xbase.zip.
