Ewald,

the latest release of DosTeX now includes METAFONT, though i can't
recall if TFtoPL/PLtoTF are also included. the latest DosTeX is being
installed in the archive and should be available soon.

Ewald JENISCH <A4421DAD@EARN.AWIUNI11> asked about MetaFont for MS/DOS based
systems. At TUG '89, Richard Kinch, with incredible generosity, gave away
copies of TurboTeX to all those attending; for those who could not attend,
he sells copies for $150 (executable only), $300 (source included). TurboTeX
includes TurboMetaFont, which I have used to generate a 15cm-high crest.

The following query from A42JR@UK.AC.NE-LONDON-POLY appeared in UKTeX89 #32,
regarding DYNA.STY...

>A user here has received a document from Germany in LaTeX format. It
>uses the BOOK.STY, but also looks for DYNA.STY. I can find no trace of
>this either from our distribution tape, or in the Aston archive. Has
>anyone ever heard of this?

Heving seen similar correspondence elsewhere, might I be right in thinking
that the style option is called dIna.sty --- in which case, I think A4.STY
might fill the bill.

One `A42JR' from NE-LONDON-POLY asks about the style DYNA.STY, mentioned
in a LaTeX document from Germany. Might this be a misreported (or even
mistyped) DINA4.STY? I *have* seen one of these somewhere. Presumably,
the DIN is as in the German (or is it European?) standards organisation,
and it is an A4 style. If this is the case, you can probably get away with
using A4.STY (from the directory [TEX-ARCHIVE.LATEX.CONTRIB] in the archive,
thought you probably already have one).

Certain users at this site (which is generally committed to using DEC
LN03 printers for output) are making use of a PC-based package (MathCAD) to
generate figures which they would like to include in their LaTeX-formatted
theses, etc.

Although the package supports the concept of configuration files to describe
output devices (and is capable of sending the output to a file, for later
transfer to the physical device), the only graphics output supported on what
it terms ``plotters'' (as opposed to ``printers'') is HPGL. (Producing a
configuration definition for a ``printer'' is of no help, because it will then
send textual information assuming the device supports an IBM printer character
set [we have the IBM-PC ROM for our LN03, but intermingling this with DVI
output seems rather hairy!].)

Therefore, my question is this: has anyone written a program (which runs on,
or could be ported to either a Vax or IBM-PC), which can interpret HPGL and
generate the corresponding bitmap in DEC's sixel format? Such an output
could then readily be incorporated using Rose's \special{ln03:plotfile xxx}
support in his or my DVI-LN03 driver.

Please mail me direct and I will summarize to the digests.

We have TeX running on our IBM VM/CMS system.

It would be nice if we could get a program which would copy one DVI
file to another DVI file, the second file to contain only a selection
of pages from the first file.

There is something called "dviselect" written in C, but we don't have
a C compiler for CMS. We do have a Pascal compiler, though.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Having discovered how to talk to your TeX archive, I see that there is rather
a lot of it. What I am trying to find is an upgrade from TeX C Version 2.95
to Version 2.99, which I understand to be the current one. Is there any chance
that there may be a diff or something handy to do this ? Do you in fact have
2.99 (the tex82/readme still says 2.95) ??

Regards
Andy Michael
