Subject: EMTEX
Dear Dr. Abbott,
At the beginning of August you kindly sent me the standard issue of
EMTEX, which included the PS and LJ fonts.
I would like to obtain the P6M and FX fonts in addition. How many
disks would I need to send? I have some spare 3.5 x l.44 disks which
are already formatted, but blank. Will these be OK, or is it essential
that they ARE blank?
Can you tell me if EMTEX supports PCs' Extended Memory? I haven't
been able to dig this out yet. If not, it would be a good idea, since
so many PCs can now have more than 1MB plugged in, with the surplus over
1MB run as Extended Memory.

Subject: MacDraw II graphics in LaTeX?
Hello,
I've acknowledge the existence of this list from Sebastian Rahtz,
"A guide to LaTeX facilities".
I do not know if this is the apropriate place for this kind of questions,
but here it is:
I'm using LaTeX and would like to include Macintosh's MacDraw II
figures. I know it is possible, but I don't know how!!!
Questions:
- How do I get a MacDraw II PostScript file?
- How can I include this MacDraw II PostScript file in LaTex? Using
the macro \psfig is enough?
- I have tried to include a PostScript file (menu.ps) produced with
DECW$PRINTSCREEN V2 EFT-1 (%%BoundingBox:137 97 476 695) using
\psfig but I couldn't. I've got the following error from LaTex:

Subject: Oxford thesis regulations
With regard to the distasteful developments I reported in UKTeX v.91 #22, I am
happy to be able to say that Oxford University has now returned to the
`well-designed book' criterion for TeX-ed theses - double spacing is required
only when the thesis is typed or prepared on a word-processor whose output
resembles that of a typewriter.

Subject: GINOtoSIX program is now in the archive
In response to popular request (well, actually one guy in Galway), I've
added Sqn Ldr John Baggott's GINOtoSIX program to the archive.
This program, described in an appendix to the DVItoLN03 user guide,
converts GINO metafiles into a form (``sixels'') that can be printed on
a DEC LN03 laser printer; the GRAPHICS.STY style option (part of the
standard DVItoLN03 distribution) includes a command that can include
such an image, through a \special command, in a TeX document.

In addition, all the above files are to found in a VMS backup save_set,
as [.BINARY.DRIVERS.DVITOLN03]GINOTOSIX.BCK
It's so long since I did anything with it that I can't remember how to
compile it, but there appear to be two Fortran source files; I presume
the larger file CLI.FOR provides the interface to the command-line
interface routines of VMS. Therefore I'd guess that one just compiles
each of the .FOR files, and links them with LINK GINOTOSIX,CLI to create
GINOTOSIX.EXE. The TEST.* files are a sample picture as generated by
GINO, the output in sixel form, and a sample document that includes the
latter.

Subject: Apologies for lack of service
Many apologies to all users of the UK TeX Archive at Aston University
for the week's break in service.
It was intended that the service would be transferred from its old home
(a VAX-11/750 with only 8MB of memory) to its new (an 11/785 with 16MB)
in just two days, last Thursday and Friday.
But after the disks had all been saved and the system shutdown, the
engineers reported difficulty in getting the new machine to work (some
cables were missing). It's still not the whole configuration that I'd
anticipated last week, but at least it's usable at present.

P.S. I first attempted to send this message to UKTeX on the afternoon of
12th September: for some peculiar reason, the LIST_SERVER is handling
all other traffic (for example, that to Archive-Group), and some private
lists, but crashing on submissions to UKTeX. The code has not been
changed in any way since transfer to the 785, but a DCL command
procedure is crashing with an `improperly handled condition, bad stack
or exit handler' - and the DCL command is a simple GOTO, the target of
which *does* exist!! I've now added some additional debugging code, and
hope this might get through, or give me a clue as to what's happening!
