My OzTeX questions are simple:
- - -is it shareware or public domain
- - -where can I get an up to date version of the package ?
- - -when I try to initex the amslatex packagae I get TeX capacity
exceeded. Is this a known problem ?

Thanks for your help.

Subject: EmTeX amsfonts.mfj problem

I started the supplied amsfonts.mfj and got a failure as detailed below
on msam6 at \magstep 5. As the same font had been generated at magsteps
0,half,1,2,3,4 I was surprised. I thought someone ought to be told.

I'm probably not interested in the technical explanation, but if anyone
has a quick fix I'd like that. Meanwhile I'll continue with the next font
in the mfj.

Subject: \newcount problem

I am trying to set an number of letters and have set up a 'banner'
macro so:

\newcount\letternumber

\def\newletter{Letter \advance\letternumber by 1\the\letternumber}

\def\letter#1#2{\centerline{\newletter}
\bigskip\bigskip\line{#1\hfil #2}\bigskip}

When I use this I get out simply the string 'Letter' and no number.

I am basing my code on this below:

\newcount\caseno

\def\newcaseno{\subcaseno=0\advance\caseno by 1
   {\bf\the\caseno}}

\newcount\subcaseno

\def\newsubcaseno{\advance\subcaseno by 1
   {\bf\the\caseno{}.\the\subcaseno}}

\def\case#1#2{\bigskip\textbody[\newcaseno]\quad{}#1\hfill #2\smallskip}

\def\subcase#1#2{\bigskip\textbody[\newsubcaseno]\quad{}#1\hfill#2
\smallskip}

which works fine.

Er, what am I doing wrong?

failing to properly delimit the <number> by which you wish
to increment \letternumber; try instead:

    \def\newletter{Letter \global \advance\letternumber by 1 \the\letternumber}
                             ^                              ^
                        note \global                    note space

"! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=65535]

I do really absolutely need more capacity. How can I enlarge TeX?
I'm using TeXtures 1.4 on the macintosh (and simply reserving more space
for the application won't help, of course).

Thanks in advance,

um, this is usually untrue, and since textures 1.4
uses a sort of virtual memory hack (i.e. uses the
disk space as real memory) you may have run out of
an awful lot of memory (assuming your disk isn't full).
what were the tracing stats? maybe it is something
simple? you could always upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5.
if you are using lightning 1.4, the upgrade is free
(see your friendly neighborhood textures dealer).

i suspect soemthing obscure but simple.
