These things seem to proferate every year. > So all that's needed is some PostScript to stick 2 pages on each page > & translate one appropriately. dvips will call bop-hook & eop-hook if > they're defined, so I reckon it should be easy to do this. the `up' utility does a good job of this. the difficulty is that it is written in Perl, so if you dont have that you are stuck. It is a filter which will apply any transformations you care to define to your pages; I have used it in an analogous manner to print `3up' pages to create a folding leaflet. I use PostScript fonts which scale by themselves anyway, but I can see why you want the effect. You might find some of what what you want from this set of definitions I hacked from `up' which you might be able to mix in with bop-hook and eop-hook. I'm not volunteering, tho. You should also carefully examine `multi.ps' for a model (in the Aston archive) sebastian /inch {72 mul} def /moveU {0 11.65 inch translate} def /moveR {8.3 inch 0 translate} def /moveD {0 -11.65 inch translate} def /moveL {-8.3 inch 0 translate} def /rotR {-90 rotate} def /rotL {90 rotate} def /moveSRR {5.8 inch 0 translate} def # assume pages are already right size, just need laying out 2 per page, # with top of page aligned with side (ie translate by length of page) 11.65 inch .1 inch translate rotL % now your job is to apply SRR to *alternate* pages only % ...... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 90 21:11:32 -0000 From: S.P.Q.RAHTZ@UK.AC.SOUTHAMPTON.ECS Subject: Re: texware. If you read the TEX.CLD file, you'll see that /BATCH is on by default in batch jobs, so the batch job log file WILL only show the announcement; however, TeX's own log file (.LIS on VMS) will have all the details. There's one other problem, and TEX.CLD should be edited to correct it: somehow (DH blamed me, but it isn't in my original) the /INIT qualifier is also turned on in batch mode, so it is really running iniTeX (but with a preloaded format (?...)! However, I can't see that that would stop it from processing your document. I've recently made a few corrections and enhancements (producing PD V3.3) and Don and I are discussing one further possible enhancement before announcing the release. I am trying to get a version of LaTeX for running on a PC; I have copied various files from your archive :- DISK$TEX:[TEX-ARCHIVE.TEX.MS-DOS.EMTEX] namely LATEX2.BOO, TEX2.BOO, DVIDRV2.BOO AND VARIOUS *.ENG . I cannot find any mention of these BOO files in the documentation from that directory, I assume these are some sort of condensed files which need un-packing. If this is so where will I find the un-packing utility ? Also do I need any additional files (such as fonts ?) and which of these do I need. I am aiming to be able to write report style documents in LaTeX (12 pt, no need for extra big characters), on an XT with postscript output to a file (for remote printing), and some driver to preview on-screen (EGA I think). Thanks a lot in anticipation of your help Chris Radcliffe Dept of Mech Eng, Leeds University, Leeds LS2 9JT MEN5CDR @ LEEDS.ICF.LEVA ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Sep 90 09:48:00 -0700 From: DHOSEK%EDU.CLAREMONT.HMCVAX@UK.AC.NSFNET-RELAY Subject: Re: VMS v3.0 TeX in batch In the CLD file, things are defined so that /BATCH is default if TeX is run in a batch job. This will cause no terminal output after the banner line to be printed; the DVI file and LIS file should be created normally (have you checked?) Also, when giving a report like this, it's worthwile to also give the change file version number (given in square brackets on the banner line) since bugs have been found in the change files in the past (and probably will be in the future). - -dh ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Sep 90 09:07:08 -0000 From: P.ABBOTT@UK.AC.ASTON Subject: TeX for Apollo/AEGIS ? Paper mail from David Leal Caesar Systems 28 Caterham Road London SE13 5AR 23 September 90 Dear Peter, I would be very grateful if you can find a version of Latex, which runs on an Apollo DN300 under AEGIS, and drives an HP Laserjet IIP printer. I would be happy to do some work on the source if a version cannot be found to completely satisfy these requirements. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- !!
